shell forms

Sculptural shell fragments focus on the play of light and shade, and the enticing smoothness of water-worn edges.  I am fascinated by the process of erosion and by what remains.  My starting point is my wheel or a rolled slab of porcelain; I manipulate, add to or carve into the form.  These methods echo the laying down of shell and weathering by the sea.  The process is partly planned and partly intuitive.   As stand-alone pieces or grouped into families they provide a calm focus and ask to be held.
